For this “British Invasion” concert, with two Americans fearlessly leading the charge, we should have had the complete orchestral works of Butterworth (I think there are four of them), and that would have been, if not the ultimate snooze, extremely educational and we could have written him off our “to do list” forevermore. Instead we were served this pallid plate of British bangers without any mustard.

“The best accolade I can give Butterworth’s bucolic little tone poem “The Banks of the Green Willow” is that it proved less indulgent than Vaughan Williams in his meandering pastoral odes.”

    Good one.

Butterworth has composed some interesting songs.
