Lamb’s Players Theatre had a big hit last year by featuring Francis Gercke and Robert Smyth in a production of Mark St. Germain’s play, Freud’s Last Session. So, big that they’re staging an earlier St. Germain work, Camping with Henry & Tom with the same two actors, plus local favorite Manny Fernandes…
San Diego Opera’s General Director David Bennett just announced Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro,” Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” and Bizet’s “Carmen” as the 2018-2019 traditional main stage productions at Civic Theatre. Additional productions next season include Jake Heggie’s “Three Decembers” and Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel.”
The chamber ensemble Camarada’s highly charged “Te Amo Tango” program at the Mingei International Museum on Sunday, February 18, continued San Diego’s infatuation with tango, recently inspired by San Diego Opera’s sexy production of Astor Piazzolla’s tango opera “Maria de Buenos Aires.”
When San Diego Opera General Director David Bennett signed soprano Lise Lindstrom to sing the title role in Puccini’s “Turandot,” he was not exactly going out on a limb. She had performed it with acclaim at her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2009, not to mention a well-received San Diego Opera production in 2011 . . .
